Diana, a Colombian who came to study in France, declares herself not guilty in front of a jury that accuses her of clandestinity, attempted voluntary manslaughter and posing a threat to national security. To convince the jury of her innocence, Diana takes us on a picaresque and moving journey, narrating moments of her stay in France. She shares her disillusionment vis-à-vis France and its system, through her accounts of situations she hadn’t imagined possible in her homeland. When she arrives at the airport, while French policemen search her luggage for drugs, she learns about their taste for art and cuisine: she is forced by the policemen to eat  her Colombian desserts, use up her roll of film and ruin her CD-Player- transforming it into a contemporary art piece-, in order to ensure that these are not stuffed with drugs. She then must face the traps of “chosen” immigration laws and French bureaucracy with humour and wit. She goes on to become her landlord’s dominatrix because of a translation misunderstanding just before making a terrible discovery that will change the course of her life.
